Amina Latif, MS
Amina Latif is a first-generation rising third-year medical student at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, where she also earned a Master of Biomedical Sciences. She contributed to a pilot research project led by Dr. Nicole Sudduth of Sutter Health Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, which aimed to increase clinician-patient conversations about safe firearm storage through specialized training. Early results showed that clinicians felt more confident and engaged in more discussions on firearm safety after the training. Growing up in Los Angeles in the 1990s, Amina witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of gun violence on her community, fueling her passion for addressing its impact on healthcare. She is committed to advocating for firearm safety discussions as a standard part of patient care and hopes to continue driving change in gun violence prevention within the medical field.
